Put Yule Log on your TV
Yule Log is a web page. Anything that can show a browser, or mirror a phone or a laptop, can show the fire.
Four ways
A TV with a browser. Samsung and LG TVs, Fire TV (the Silk browser) and Xbox (Edge) have one. Type the address yulelogtv.com, then use the toolbar at the top: Hide panels clears the controls, and Full screen fills the screen. The cards and buttons work with the remote's pointer.
Cast a tab from Chrome. Open the page in Chrome on a laptop, then the menu → Cast… → Sources → Cast tab, and pick the TV. TVs with Google TV or Chromecast built in appear in that list. The sound goes with the tab.
AirPlay from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Open the page in Safari, then Control Centre → Screen Mirroring → your Apple TV or AirPlay television.
An HDMI cable from a laptop. No lag and no setup. Press F for full screen and H to hide the panels.
On your phone
Add it to your home screen and it opens full screen, like an app, with its own icon. On Android and in desktop Chrome or Edge, tap Install in the toolbar when it appears. On an iPhone or iPad, tap the Share button in Safari, then Add to Home Screen. Prop the phone on the mantelpiece, or beside the bed.
Before you settle in
Sound. Browsers keep sound off until you touch the page. Tap the speaker in the toolbar, or press S. The crackle, the chimes and the carols are made in the browser.
Picture. The page picks a lighter picture on small or slow devices. Change it under Lights. The detailed page, with the modelled room and the cat, needs a stronger machine; a TV's own browser is often happiest with the easy page.
Keep it awake. A TV does not sleep while its browser is open. A laptop does: set sleep to never while it is plugged in.
The fire looks after itself. Logs burn down slowly. Add one when it gets low, or press and hold the log basket and Pip fetches one for you.
